Google Voice is one of the newest services on the market for voice calls and texts inside the USA. As with many Google services, it began as an invitation only service in the beta stage and then went completely public when it became popular.

This is very similar to the way Gmail and Google Plus began. Small businesses everywhere have been relying on Voice for a cheap way of adding a phone number.

Most recently, some people have figured out how to set it up with faxing capabilities as well. Google Voice fax capabilities come from the ability to rig the system up in a strange fashion.

The dedicated Voice number needs to be set up to call the phone line associated with the fax machine desired, be answered, and receive the fax. Sending a Google Voice fax is slightly more difficult.

The settings will need to be altered online first to ensure the PIN is not required for voicemail access. Upon changing the settings, set the fax machine up to dial the Google Voice number that is being used to send the fax, the number '2' for the appropriate selection, and then the number receiving the fax.

Using this slight tweak in settings and usage, any fax machine or all-in-one printer should be able to send and receive fax transfers via the number set up for the individual or business. Google has always been a company that has made its money and popularity on marketing free or "freemium" services to small businesses and individuals attempting to make money, but using the Voice service, people can not only make free local calls using a dedicated number, but with just a few settings changes and a numbering sequence in a fax machine, users should also be able to send fax transfers as well.
